educational book design for teachers and children.

story:

clare newbolt came to our office and showed us a vast quantity of the most stunning children's artwork. she then told us that for the last two years she'd been working in schools in the cambridgeshire area (UK) using her own techniques for teaching children about colour and that these artworks were the product of her labours. she then told us that as part of a series of ideas she has about the improvement of teaching art to children to aid the better understanding and appreciation they have of the world around them, she wanted us to subsequently collect these images and her teachings together in the form of a book.

to design the book we agreed to let the children's already beautiful works dominate every page and then slip the teachings in (in such a way that other teachers could also teach them) around them. all design work, as a rule, was to be limited to only that which would augment the children's pictures and not in any way supersede their inherent qualities.
